학술논문(article)의 영향력은 대부분 피인용횟수(cited times)로 평가하는 경우가 많습니다. 다음에 소개해드리는 TopCited라는 사이트는 무료로 26개 주제분야에서 피인용횟수가 가장 높은 20개의 학술논문을 보여줍니다. 주제분야는 다음과 같이 26개로 구분해놓고 있습니다. (대상 저널 리스트 보기) 또한, 각 주제별로 RSS로 구독할 수 있어 업데이트된 정보를 손쉽게 구독할 수 있습니다.논문의 게재연도 범위를 아래와 같이 3가지로 선택할 수 있습니다.또한, Google map과의 매쉬업을 통해서 세계지도상에서 해당 논문의 제1저자 기관과 매칭시켜줍니다. 어느 나라에서 해당 분야의 연구성과가 뛰어난 지를 시각적으로 볼 수가 있네요.SCOPUS를 구독하지 않는 기관도 무료로 볼 수가 있고, 포스텍과 같은 구독기관은 해당 아티클을 클릭하면 상세한 서지정보와 원문으로도 접근할 수가 있습니다. 다만, 구독하고 있는 저널의 아티클만 해당합니다.

과학기술 논문 자동번역 서비스를 제공하는 Notii라는 사이트를 소개해드리겠습니다. 노띠(Notii)는 라틴어로 지식, 정보를 의미하는 'notitia'와 정보통신의 'IT'가 결합한 단어로 정보통신 기술을 통해 지식 정보를 지혜로 이끌겠다는 의미가 담겨져 있다고 하네요. 현재 베타버전으로 운영되고 있고, 사용후기를 올리면 Wii를 상품으로 주는 이벤트도 진행중이네요. (담주 월요일까지)영작문 서비스와 영한/한영 번역 서비스를 제공하고 있습니다. 생활문장이 아닌 전문적인 기술문서를 번역하는데 이용해보시기 바랍니다. 대부분의 논문들이 PDF 문서로 되어 있는 것을 감안, PDF 로 된 영어 논문 파일에서 텍스트를 추출해서 번역할 수 있고, 번역된 결과를 따로 저장하여 관리할 수 있는 문서 관리 툴도 지원하고 있습니다. 제공회사는 (주)엘엔아이소프트라는 곳으로 번역포털인 투앤투닷컴을 운영하고 있답니다. 회원가입을 해야 테스트를 할 수 있는 점이 아쉽지만 이공계 분야의 이용자들에게는 좋은 서비스가 되지 않을까요. *^^*

"박물관이 살아있다"라는 영화가 있다. 이 영화는 뉴욕에 있는 미국 자연사 박물관에서 일어나는 소동을 줄거리로 하고 있다. 내년에는 2편이 나올 예정이라고 하는데 부제가 스미스소니언 탈출이다. 무대가 뉴욕의 미국 자연사 박물관에서 워싱턴에 있는 스미스소니언 자연사 박물관으로 옮겨간 것이다. 세계에서 가장 큰 박물관 중에 하나인 이 박물관은 스미스소니언 협회에서 운영하고 있으며 스미스소니언 협회는 스미스손(Smithson)이라는 분의 유산으로 만들어졌다. 스미스손이라는 분은 과학자로 특이한 인생편력을 가진 분이었다. 국적은 영국이지만 태어난 곳은 프랑스 파리이며 사망한 곳은 이탈리아 제노바였다. 특이하게 모든 유산은 그의 나라 영국이 아니라 미국으로 가서 미국의 문화와 과학을 꽃피우게 만들었다. 스미스손은 사실 홍길동과 같은 서자 출신이었다. 일설에 의하면 스미스손의 이런 신분적 제약이 한으로 남아 생전에 한번도 가본 적이 없는 미국에 어마어마한 유산이 넘어갔다고 한다. 스미스손의 유언은 스미스소니언 협회라는 이름으로 지식을 증진하고 보급하는 기관을 설립하라는 것이었다. 이런 스미스손의 유언에 따라 미국에서는 박물관을 지어 지식의 증대와 보급을 통해 과학을 발전시켰다. 멀리있지만 우리도 스미스손의 유언에 따라 스미스소니언 협회에서 무료로 제공하는 백과사전을 이용해 지식을 증진해보자. 스미스소니언 협회에서는 Encyclopedia Smithsonian : Science & Technology를 제공하고 있다. 스미스소니언 협회의 다양한 박물관에서 소장하고 있는 백과정보들을 만나보자. 내용중에 IT분야의 두거성인 빌 게이츠와 스티브 잡스의 10여년 전의 인터뷰 음성과 스크립트도 보고 들을 수 있다. 아래 색인을 참고로 관심있는 분야의 내용을 재미삼아 살펴보면 좋겠다.
