[5/8]어버이날과 카네이션~
평소에는 감사하는 마음을 잊어버렸다가도..
어버이날이면 다시 한번 감사하게 되니 참 좋습니다 ^^
이제는 부모님께서 흘리신 땀과 눈물로 피어난 우리 마음의 꽃을 매일매일 달아드립시다~
5월 8일 부모님 가슴에 꽂아드리는
카네이션(Carnation)의 종명은 'dianthus Caryophyllus' 으로,서남 아시아와 아라비아 반도를 포함한 근동지방이 원산지라고 한다.
어떤 학자들은 'Carnation' 의 어원이 옛 그리스의 예식용 화관에 사용되는 꽃 중 하나여서 대관식(Coronation), 또는 화환(Flower Garlands)을 뜻하는 'Corone' 에서 유래된 것이라고 한다.
또 다른 학자는 라틴어로 Cramis (Flesh) 즉, 성육신(Incarnation)을 의미한다고도 하고
옛 로마에서는 로마의 신 쥬피터의 꽃(Jove"Flower)으로 알려져있다.
카네이션은 1974년, 포르투갈 혁명(Carnation Revolution)의 상징으로 사용되기도 했는데
체제 전복을 꾀한 혁명군들이 폭력을 사용하지 않는다는 표시로
총에다 카네이션을 달았다는 것이다.
카네이션은 사랑, 매혹, 고귀함을 뜻하며
특히, 연한 빨강색 카네이션은 찬미를, 진한 빨강색은 심오한 사랑과 애정을
흰색 카네이션은 순수한 사랑과 행운을,
줄무늬 카네이션은 사랑을 나눌 수 없는 슬픔을 상징한다고 한다.
카네이션의 여러가지 색깔 중에 분홍빛 카네이션은 특별히 상징적이며 역사적인 의미를 가지는데,
기독교의 전설에 의하면 2000년전 예수님께서 십자가에 못박혔을 때 지상에 출현하였다고 한다.
즉 예수의 십자가 고난을 목격한 성모 마리아가 눈물을 흘리자, 그 눈물이 떨어진 자리에 피어난 꽃이
카네이션이었다는 것이다.
그 때문에 카네이션은 어머니의 자식에 대한 불멸의 사랑의 상징이 되었고,
1907년부터 어머니날의 표상(Emblem)으로 채택되어 5월 8을 어버이날로 지키는 우리와 달리
미국과 캐나다에서는 5월 둘째 일요일을 어머니날(Mother's Day)로 정하고 있다.
