유수한 외국 대학들의 강의들이 유튜브와 같은 동영상 서비스를 통해서 세계 곳곳에 퍼져나가고 있습니다. 오픈소스형 강의교재도 있고 불법이지만 심지어 텍스트북까지 P2P사이트를 통해서 구할 수 있죠. 뿐만 아니라 교수들의 시험문제들도 공유되고 있다고 포스팅을 올린 적이 있습니다.   이번에는 학생들의 강의노트를 공유할 수 있는 사이트까지 등장했습니다. GradeGuru라는 이 사이트는 학생들의 집단지성이 담긴 강의노트를 서로가 공유할 수 있도록 하고 있습니다. 대학별, 학과별, 학년별로 자신이 원하는 강의노트를 찾아볼 수도 있고 요청할 수도 있습니다. 더불어 인기있는 노트는 금전적 보상까지 준다고 하니 돈이 궁한 학생들에게는 더 바랄게 없겠네요. 하지만 이걸 믿고 수업을 빼먹거나 남의 노트를 표절하는 일은 없어야겠죠. 현재 미국 322개 대학의 학생들이 참여하고 있습니다. 영어실력으로 무장해서 이런 동영상과 강의노트를 보고 열공하면 누구나 자기분야의 '미네르바'가 되지 않을까요. 새해에 세웠던 계획들은 모두 안녕하신지요. 작년 이맘때쯤에 "작심삼일 타파 3종세트"라는 포스팅을 했었습니다. 오늘도 비슷한 주제의 글을 써보려고 합니다. 우리는 늘 계획은 잘 세우지만 실천은 좀처럼 되지 않는 걸 경험합니다. 아마도 우리 마음속에서는 귀차니즘이 또아리를 틀고 있나 봅니다. 오늘 할일을 이따가 또는 내일 하면 좀 어때라는 생각을 하죠. 그러다 보면 계획은 저만치 먼 기억속으로 사라지고 현재 발등에 떨어진 긴급하지만 중요하지 않은 일들로 하루가 메꾸어져가고 있는 걸 느끼게 됩니다. 귀차니즘만 잘 다스리면 우리는 더욱 생산적이고 효율적인 성과를 이룰 수가 있을 겁니다. 자기개발의 대가인 Brian Tracy는 Eat That Frog!: 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time 이라는 책을 통해서 귀차니즘을 극복하는 21가지의 방법을 소개하고 있습니다. 개구리를 먹으라니 이 무슨 뚱딴지같은 제목인가요. 개구리를 식용하면 사람들이 원기왕성해셔서 실천력이 늘어난다는 걸까요. (우왕 굳~ ㅎㅎ) 그건 아니구요. 이 개구리의 이야기는 Mark Twain이 한 이야기랍니다. 만약에 여러분이 매일 아침 제일 먼저 해야하는 일이 살아있는 개구리를 먹는 것이라면, 여러분은 하루중에서 겪을 최악의 일을 치뤘다는 만족감으로 나머지 하루를 보낼 수 있다고 하네요. 여기서 개구리가 의미하는 것은 여러분에게 있어 가장 크고, 가장 중요한 일을 말합니다. 부제는 귀차니즘을 없애고 짧은 시간에 더 많은 일을 처리하는 21가지 방법입니다. Procrastinating을 귀차니즘이라고 풀어봤습니다. 원래의 뜻은 지연, 연기, 꾸물거림이라는 의미를 가지고 있습니다. 어원을 살펴보면 내일(cras)로 미뤄둔다(pro)라는 뜻을 가지고 있네요. 개구리를 먹으라는 것은 가장 중요한 일을 제일 먼저 처리하라는 뜻이겠죠. 21가지 방법을 간략하게 소개해드리겠습니다. 자세한 내용은 전자책을 일독하시기 바랍니다. Set the Table : 목표를 명확히 설정하라.  Plan Every Day in Advance : 계획에 들인 1분이 실행하는데 있어 10분을 절약해준다. Apply the 80/20 Rule to Everything : 당신 실적의 80%를 만들 중요한 20%의 일에 집중하라. Consider the Consequences : 중요한 결과를 만들어 낼 일에 집중하라. Practice Creative Procrastination : 귀차니즘은 덜 중요한 일에 발휘하라. Use the ABCDE Method Continually : 일을 하기 전에 중요도를 ABC로 정해서 시작하라. Focus on Key Result Areas : 중요한 결과에 집중하라. Apply the Law of Three : 가장 중요한 세가지를 찾아서 실행하라. Prepare Thoroughly Before You Begin : 일을 시작하기 전에 모든 것을 철저히 준비해둬라. Take It One Oil Barrel at a Time : 한번에 하나씩 해나가면 크고, 복잡한 일도 해낼 수 있다. Upgrade Your Key Skills : 업무에 요긴한 기술에 능숙할수록 일처리를 빠르게 마칠 수 있다. Leverage Your Special Talents : 자신의 특별한 재능을 활용하라. Identify Your Key Constraints : 일처리 속도를 늦추는 요소를 찾아내서 제거하라. Put the Pressure on Yourself : 한달간 출장으로 자리를 비워야 한다는 마음으로 일처리를 해라. Maximize Your Personal Powers : 가장 집중할 수 있는 시간대를 골라 일하라. Motivate Yourself into Action : 긍정적이고 건설적으로 사고하라. Get Out of the Technological Time Sinks : 커뮤니케이션을 극대화시킬 기술을 활용하라. 다만, 그 기술의 노예는 되지말라. Slice and Dice the Task : 크고, 복잡한 일은 깍뚝이처럼 썰어서 하나씩 처리한다. Create Large Chunks of Time : 가장 중요한 일에 오랜 시간을 집중할 수 있도록 시간대를 설정하라. Develop a Sense of Urgency : 중요한 업무에 빠르게 대응할 수 있는 습관을 길러라. Single Handle Every Task : 우선순위를 정해 중요한 일을 즉각 수행하고 100% 완료될 때까지 처리한다. 이러한 일들을 처리하기 위해서는 종이에 목표를 구체적으로 적고 행동에 옮기라고 저자는 말합니다. 하지만 요즘엔 종이 다이어리보다 더 정교하게 이런 일들을 처리하는 무료 프로그램들이 많이 있습니다. 그중에서 DRCHOI 블로그에 소개된 Life Manager라는 무료 프로그램을 강력 추천합니다. 계속해서 업그래이드도 이루어지고 있습니다. 웹과 연동은 안되지만 무척 만족스럽습니다. 저는 올해부터 USB에 담아서 사용하고 있습니다. 아직 계획을 못잡으신 분들은 이 프로그램을 이용해서 꾸준히 개구리를 복용하심이 어떨지요.   Open Culture는 Stanford University의 Assistant Dean인 Dan Colman에 의해 운영되는 블로그입니다. Stanford Univ.의 학생, 교수들이 협업하여 포스팅을 하고 있네요.  세계의 많은 대학에서 이미 강의 동영상을 Open하여 대중에게 제공하고 있고, 매학기 정기적인 Podcasting을 발행하고 있습니다. 요즘 미국, 캐나다, 영국, 호주의 학생들이 iPod를 휴대하고 다니면서 지난 강의를 복습하거나 관심있는 수업을 듣는 모습을 많이 볼 수 있는데요, 학술정보도 이제 개방, 공유하는 시대가 되었기 때문에 가능한 것 같습니다. 하고자 하는 마음만 있다면, 공부할 수 있는 자원들은 넘치고 넘치는 세상이죠. 각자가 정보를 어떻게 선별해서 활용할 것인가, 그것이 관건인 것 같습니다.  골라잡는 것은 여러 분의 몫이죠~^^ Open Culture에 풍덩 빠져 봅시다 ! 대부분이 미국 대학의 Lecture지만, 영국, 프랑스, 호주 등의 대학에서도 Courseware를 Open하고 있는 것이 눈에 띕니다. 이번 크리스마스 연휴에는 많은 분들이 도서관 DVD를 빌려가셨더라구요. 출근해서 보니 무인대출반납기 앞에 반납된 DVD들이 엄청나게(?) 쌓여있더라구요. 외로운 솔로부대원들이 몰려왔었나 봅니다. New Scientist는 영국에서 발행되는 과학 교양 주간지로 1956년부터 발행을 해오고 있습니다. 일반인이 읽기에는 Science지보다는  다소 편한 편이라고 합니다. 광범위한 과학분야를 다루고 있습니다. 포스텍 도서관에서는 인쇄본의 구독이 중단되었지만 전자저널본은 Proquest의 ABI/INFORM을 통해서 2002년 이후 발행분 부터 최근 -6개월(엠바고) 분까지 보실 수 있습니다. 저널 사이트에서는 무료로 동영상 사이트를 운영하고 있습니다.
